Members of the QUICS team attended CVPR 2026 (June 3–7, 2026) in Denver, one of the world’s leading conferences on computer vision and pattern recognition. Alongside the core vision program, the event also offered a glimpse into the interplay between quantum computing and machine learning.

Invited Talk: Quantum-Centric Supercomputing

A highlight was the invited talk “Transform computing with quantum-centric supercomputing” by Jerry Chow (IBM Fellow, CTO of Quantum-Centric Supercomputing). The talk laid out how bringing together quantum processors, classical high-performance computing, and AI can extend what is computationally feasible.

Chow grouped the practical opportunities into a few key areas where quantum computing helps: Hamiltonian simulation, optimization, machine learning, and differential equations, the first two of which we have explored hands-on in earlier blog posts.

For the vision and ML community, the most relevant thread was the set of QML (Quantum Machine Learning) pathways: quantum-enhanced representations, quantum-assisted AI for science, and AI-discovered quantum workflows. We dig into several of these areas, and into what quantum computing can and cannot do more broadly. Each pathway points to concrete targets, from classification and time series to chemistry, materials, and many-body physics.

These directions line up closely with the goal of QUICS: making quantum technologies practical and accessible, including for small and medium-sized enterprises.
